MARCANTE WINES
Mercante Wines is a tribute to three generations of passion, tradition, and artistry. The story begins in Puglia, Italy, with Ralph Oggiano, a renowned photographer who discovered the craft of winemaking. His son-in-law, Arthur Mercante, the legendary boxing referee from the iconic Ali-Frazier fight, found peace in winemaking with a close friend in his Garden City home. Arthur’s son, Captain James Mercante, a distinguished maritime lawyer, carried on this family tradition, learning the craft alongside his father. Inspired by his family’s legacy and the 50th anniversary of the Ali-Frazier fight, James created a commemorative Napa Valley wine. This success led him back to his roots in Puglia, where he founded Mercante Wines, blending his family’s heritage with the artistry of Pugliese winemaking.
